Blog #3: Riding Freedom By:Pam Mun`oz Ryan

Dear Sharon,
This book is one of my favorite books because it gives a very important message. Also because is very interesting. Here is the main characters:

  • Charlotte
  • Ebeneezer
  • Hayward
  • Vern
  • James
  • Frank
  • Mr.Millshark
The story is telling about Charlotte. She is a very strong and smart girl. She is in an orphanage because her parents died in an accident and she as a 2 year old lived through it. She was a great horse rider in the orphanage because of Vern which is the one that takes care of the horses.Mr.Millshark is the owner and boss of the orphanage. He does not like Charlotte as a rider so he makes her work in the kitchen with the mean Ms.Boyles. Ebeneezer is the man that helps Charlotte in her life when she runs away.Hayward is her best friend that she met in the orphanage.James and Frank were Ebeneezer's riders until Charlotte came.
The setting is the orphanage California, Missouri, the streets.1800s.
So Charlotte is fired from horse duty and given kitchen chores. The next day her favorite horse,Freedom, dies, they were really close .In the afternoon Hayward is adopted.Charlotte has bad luck so she decides to run away as a boy.She cut her hair and put her clothes in the river like she drowned.Vern helps her get away with it. The next day Charlotte woke up in Ebeneezer's stables. She decides to call herself Charley.Ebeneezer hires Charley to be his rider after years of training. She was the best driver in the state. After lots of years of riding Frank and James offer her to move with them to California. She goes and gets a very bad injury in her eye. She became blind in one eye. But she did not give up riding. She was the best and safest rider in California too.Hayward comes to visit and may move in with her like they wanted as little kids.Ebeneezer decides to move with her. Years later she heard that Vern has passed away. Her horse gave birth to twins one female one male.As Vern had said names are very important. She called the male Vern's thunder and the female Freedom.Charlotte still hasn't told anyone she was a girl on Ebeneezer, Hayward, and Vern new.
The rising action was when she moves to California and cant ride yet.
The conflict/climax is when she gets hit by a horse on her left eye and is blind on that eye.
The falling action is when she teaches herself again how to ride and gets better.
The resolution is when she has a test and she passes.
My personal opinion is that Charlotta is a very sweet strong loving brave girl.I would like to be like her in many ways. My favorite part is when Charlotte gets to see Hayward again and her life starts getting into place.
My least favorite part is when she gets hit in the eye because she doesn't deserve to.My second least favorite part is when Charlotte has to say goodbye to Hayward as kids because they were really close and i wouldn't like to lose a friend to.Well that's it i hoped you liked it `cause i certainly did!

  1. Dear Dana/Durm:
I really liked reading this.I almost felt like I was inside the book.If you were in the same situation Charlotte what would you do? Would you run away if you had the chance? What would you do if you lost a friend like Charlotte did?

  2. Dear Dana,
Wow! I got a lot of details about your book. It sounds phenomenal. I think I will read this book by any chance. I think you put in the perfect details readers need to read in order to know what the book is about and not miss any piece of information!:) By seeing that you understood what the book is about, I'm going to ask you a few questions.
What is something you really love and you will do anything to participate in that hobby?
I think you can put a few important morals to the book, from your opinion, what will be the perfect moral?
If you were Charlotte, would you pretend to be someone you're not just to be in the event you want to be in? Why or why not?
Thank you Dana for writing an amazing blog! Great job!

    Love,
    Adi<3

  4. Dear Adi,
    Thank you!
    Great vocabulary you have there!
    I love writing poems.
My moral would be that i should never be someone I'm not and never give up on your dream.
If i was Charlotte I would fight for my dream to come true not to pretend to be someone.
    Thank you again!
    love,
    Dana Yeoshoua
